Installing Fence Posts

To prevent the entrance of intruders or to keep secure the places such as compound, yard, house and garden, building of a boundary fence is the most important step. Building a boundary fence includes placing of fence posts inside the surface of ground. This was a difficult work, which one was suppose to perform under the supervision of a technically expert person.

However, in today's life, it is not completely true. Installing fence posts has become an easy work, which was difficult in earlier days. Now it can be performed by anyone with some extra efforts. The only factor due to which people do not want to do this work is due to consumption of time. If someone has time and interest in doing this work then he can easily perform this task. For installing fence posts, following instructions should be observed by a person.

To start the process of installing fence posts, you have to first mark the spots where you would install the posts. There should be a gap of 6-8 feet between each post. Hit a pole so that the marking would not disappear at any point of time during the whole process. Mark the perimeter of area where the fence is to be posted. Place a string along with the perimeter. This will guide you about the barriers in way like trees, hedges etc. Posts should be longer in size than the fences, so while purchasing or making the posts keep this thing in mind. After purchasing the posts, place them into the surface, where points were marked with spray paint. Dig the holes and keep in mind that the holes should not be more than two feet deep. Fill the gravel into the hole around three inches deep. This will help in drainage systems. Now fix the posts into the holes carefully.

To fix posts softly, use wires or hammer nails on the posts. Next step is to prepare the mix of concrete. To prepare this mixture, add three parts of gravel, one part of cement and two parts of sand. Add water and mix this to make a thick substance. Pour this mix into the holes, where posts are placed. Fill these holes up to ground level. Check the level and set the position of posts, if needed. Apply some concrete around the base of the posts with the help of trowel.

While preparing the concrete mixture, use the wheelbarrow to mix it. The materials, which are required at the time of installing fence posts, are cement, gravel, wires, fence posts, wheelbarrows etc. All these materials come in use for building the fence posts. Before installing the posts, it is necessary to make sure about the boundaries or limits of area. If one is not sure, then he can check the same with his neighbors or real estate agents. Person must check the rules and regulations before starting the fencing process, associated with the type and height of fences, and should fulfill all the legal formalities.
